LeBron James shook his head on the bench after watching his son and LA Lakers teammate Bronny James commit a turnover against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. The younger James unsuccessfully tried to thread the ball to Lakers center Deandre Ayton, who was well-covered by Charles Bassey. Bronny’s pass sailed out of bounds without Ayton even touching the ball.
One fan reacted to the viral sequence:
“Bron slowly starting to realize.”
Another fan added:
“Bronny about to be in Japan with jcole.”
One more fan continued:
“LeFlop shaking his head, ‘I’m so embarrassed this doesn’t equal NBA potential.'”
Another fan commented:
“He getting the LeBelt tonight after that turnover.”
One fan tweeted:
“I guess he only inherited LeBron’s looks.”
In the second-quarter sequence against the Suns, Bronny called for a pick-and-roll play with Ayton, but the Warriors smartly blitzed the struggling guard while another defender switched on Ayton. Instead of kicking out the ball to a wide-open Jarred Vanderbilt, James opted for a bounce pass through traffic that resulted in an error.
The Warriors couldn’t capitalize on Bronny’s error in the next play. Brandin Podziemski missed a pull-up jumper, allowing the young guard to make up for his turnover. In the next play, James found Rui Hachimura, who nailed a 25-footer.
With Luka Doncic (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique) out for the rest of the regular season, Lakers coach JJ Redick has bumped Bronny James’ playing time. The second-year player’s playmaking and ball handling have been exposed in some of his games. There are viral clips of opponents forcing the 6-foot-2 guard into a spate of errors by just pressuring him from the backcourt.
Bronny James Assisted LeBron James for Highlight Dunk Against Warriors
Bronny James and LeBron James connected late in the first quarter for a play that even Warriors fans appreciated. After the Dubs committed a turnover, the younger James grabbed the loose ball before finding his father for an uncontested dunk.
The Jameses, already the only father-son duo in the NBA to play at the same time, created more history on that play. They became the first father-son tandem to complete an assist-dunk sequence. The four-time MVP returned the favor in the third quarter when he set up Bronny for a 3-pointer.
More importantly, Bronny James and LeBron James helped the Lakers win 119-103. The victory improved the Lakers’ record to 51-29, moving them one game behind the Denver Nuggets (52-28) in the Western standings.
