The Boston Celtics have released a concerning injury report ahead of Monday’s showdown against the Indiana Pacers. Their MVP of the season, Jaylen Brown and $45 million starter, Sam Hauser, could miss this contest.
Brown is doubtful and likely to sit. The former finals MVP is dealing with low back spasms, according to the Celtics’ official injury report. Brown has missed two games this season. He was out on Dec. 4 against the Washington Wizards and Dec. 20 against the Toronto Raptors due to illness. It’s only the second time the Celtics have mentioned his back injury.
They previously did that on Nov. 28. Boston will sorely miss Brown’s production if he sits. He’s averaging 29.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 36 appearances. Though the Boston Celtics are 2-0 in his absence, it could get tricky against a desperate Indiana Pacers, who are searching for their ninth win.
Meanwhile, Hauser is questionable and has a 50-50 chance of suiting up. The sharpshooter is listed due to right hamstring tightness. He’s played in all but one game this year, averaging 7.8 ppg and 3.5 rpg on 38.6% 3-point shooting. Hauser takes 6.0 out of 6.8 attempts from long range, so the Celtics could face spacing issues if he’s unavailable.
Jayson Tatum and Josh Minnott will remain sidelined. Tatum is recovering from an Achilles surgery, while Minnott is dealing with a left ankle sprain. Tatum has yet to make his season debut. It was feared that he could miss the entire season, but according to insider Chris Mannix, Tatum is pushing really hard in February and March to start playing.
Meanwhile, Minnott has played 29 games, but the ankle sprain has kept him out since Jan. 3.
