Austin Reaves Hilariously Quips at Luka Doncic’s Confidence Issue After “Letting” Him Win At Golf

Austin Reaves, Luka Doncic, LeBron James and the LA Lakers’ coaching staff spent Sunday on a golf course in sunny Orlando. In the midst of a brutal road swing, the Lakers took time off to refresh by hitting the fairways.

When a reporter asked on Wednesday about Doncic beating Reaves in the greens, AR responded:

“I let him win, it’s a confidence thing. We need him to be at his best at 7:00 at night.”

Reaves and Doncic have been hilariously trading shots at each other this season. The two have gotten close since the former Dallas Mavericks point guard arrived before the February trade deadline last year. They often try to make fun of each other, particularly during postgame interviews.

On Sunday, the New York Post detailed the golfing games of Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic:

“Reaves’ hand-eye coordination has become legendary around the Lakers’ locker room. Doncic is relatively new to the sport, but apparently is picking it up quickly.”

Behind that description, Doncic beating Reaves on the green was quickly picked on by reporters. Unfortunately for the All-Star guard, AR wouldn’t allow him that moment by claiming he lost on purpose to the Slovenian.

Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Lakers Lost After Golfing on Sunday

The night before their Sunday golf, the Lakers eked out a 105-104 win against the Orlando Magic. Luke Kennard’s 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left sent the team to its ninth straight win.

After having fun on the golf course, the Lakers met the Cade Cunningham-less Pistons in Detroit. LeBron James went scoreless at the break, just the third time in his career it happened. Luka Doncic carried the Lakers with 32 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Austin Reaves contributed 24 points and five assists.

The trio couldn’t push the Lakers to the finish line after Pistons guard Daniss Jenkins dropped six of his career-high 30 points in the last 34 seconds. The loss allowed Detroit to win the season series against LA 2-0.

The Lakers completed their six-game road trip by bouncing back with a 137-130 win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
