LA Lakers forward LeBron James failed to score in the first half on Monday against the Detroit Pistons. According to The Athletic’s Dan Woike, this is just the third time in the four-time MVP’s career that he went scoreless at halftime.
Fans reacted to James going 0-for-5 in the first half. One fan wrote:
“LeBum needs to retire. This is a preview of playoff disaster.”
Another fan added:
“LeBron really said ‘load management’ but for scoring tonight.”
One more fan continued:
“And this is why they can’t be seriously taken as contenders.”
Another fan commented:
“Bron, it’s over man. Let the young guys take over.”
One fan tweeted:
“This is the real LeBron without open lane dunks.”
According to Woike, the last time James went scoreless at the break was on Dec. 20, 2010. The veteran went has over 1,600 games but only has three outings without a point at halftime.
Against the Pistons’ elite defense, James’ inability to score at halftime was crucial. The Lakers trailed 65-52 after two quarters despite Detroit missing All-Star guard Cade Cunningham. James contributed four rebounds and six assists.
Father Time has seemingly caught up with LeBron James on a few occasions this season. Early in December of last year, his streak of over 1,200 games with at least 10 points came to an end. The last time he failed to breach the 10-point barrier was in January 2007.
The four-time champ is the NBA’s career points leader. Despite the lofty standards he has set over the years, fans couldn’t resist mocking him after going scoreless at halftime.
LeBron James Finished One Rebound Short of Another Triple-Double
Although LeBron James struggled to score, he was still productive in other areas. The aging star ended the night with 12 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Four nights after recording 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists against the Miami Heat, James fell one rebound short of another triple-double.
James played well when the Lakers rallied from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter to grab a 108-107 lead late in the period. He had trouble scoring the basket, but he impacted his team with his versatility and presence.
