Anthony Edwards’ Injury Return First Thing on Karl-Anthony Towns’ Mind After Knicks Advance in NBA Playoffs

It’s been two seasons since Karl-Anthony Towns was traded to the Knicks by Anthony Edwards-led Timberwolves, but the former co-stars continue to share a great bond. Towns’ gesture after leading the Knicks to a 4-2 opening round win over the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday summed up the duo’s relationship. As New York’s players prepared to celebrate, Towns gave a shoutout to Edwards through the closest camera, saying:

“Ant-Man, shoutout to Ant-Man, get better, man.”

Edwards and the Timberwolves took a 3-1 series lead against the Nuggets, but the star guard went down with a hyperextended knee injury after landing awkwardly on his leg. Edwards has been out for the past two games. Denver made the most of it and avoided elimination in Game 5.

The Timberwolves are playing Game 6 without Anthony Edwards again. Donte DiVincenzo is also out after he suffered an Achilles tear in Game 4. Ayo Dosunmu and Kyle Anderson’s absences were two more blows that struck the Timberwolves as they look to close things out at home in Game 6 on Thursday. Dosunmu is out with a calf injury, while Anderson is dealing with an illness.

Chances of Anthony Edwards returning for next round increase as Timberwolves-Nuggets series extends

According to Shams Charania, Anthony Edwards could miss multiple weeks due to his knee injury. Some even speculated that his absence could extend until the Western Conference finals, if the Timberwolves advance. However, that update came after the Timberwolves took a 3-1 lead and many expected them to close the series in Game 5.

But with Denver forcing a Game 6 and still having a chance to take it to Game 7, Edwards has a chance of returning earlier than expected. Timberwolves coach Chris Finch also fueled that belief on Monday, saying:

“We do know that if we keep extending this playoff series, he is going to come back. And he generally comes back ahead of the timeline.”

Edwards doesn’t have ligament damage, which could allow him to recover quickly. The Timberwolves will hope it’s the case, especially in the conference semis, as the Spurs won’t be easy to match up against without their best player, especially with Donte DiVincenzo and Ayo Dosunmu also out.
