One of the biggest names moved this past week was Anthony Davis, whose brief stint in Dallas came to an end when he was traded to the Washington Wizards. However, Wizards fans will have to wait quite a while before they see the 10-time All-Star suit up for the team.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Davis has been officially shut down for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign. Davis, who is dealing with hand and groin injuries, was said to be targeting a long-term objective: “to get fully healthy for the 2026-27 season.”
Though Anthony Davis has compiled a resume that sets him apart from most NBA players, his track record when it comes to injuries has significantly hurt his trade value. After figuring in the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers last year, Davis was dealt by the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Khris Middleton, a number of reserve players, and some draft picks.
From his arrival in Dallas back in February 2025 all the way to 2026, Davis had played just 29 games with the Mavericks. The last time he suited up for the Mavs was on January 8, when he injured his left hand in game against the Utah Jazz.
When AD puts on a Wizards jersey for the first time next season, he’ll be under plenty of pressure to shake off the “brittle” tag that has hounded him throughout his career.
Anthony Davis Makes Bold Move of Choosing No. 23 as He Suits Up for a Former Michael Jordan Team
Even before he plays a single minute in Washington, Anthony Davis has already caused quite a stir. Shortly after his departure from Dallas went public, multiple news outlets reported that he would be wearing no. 23 when he begins his stint with the Wizards.
Notably, the last Wizards player to wear no. 23 was Michael Jordan, who came out of his second retirement to spend two seasons in Washington. Davis, whose childhood in Chicago coincided with Jordan’s storied run with the Bulls, also happened to wear no. 23 in his high school days, as well as during his stint with the New Orleans Pelicans.
