Steph Curry and Draymond Green dragged the Golden State Warriors to a 126-121 victory against the LA Clippers in a win-or-go-home play-in tournament game. Behind their veterans, the Dubs rallied on the road to keep their season alive.
NBA analyst Nick Wright tweeted after the game:
“A Draymond (Green) and Steph (Curry) absolute masterclass to earn the Warriors another game. The 2 most important people in the Warriors dynasty fighting to the very end. Championship-level effort in the play-in. You gotta love it.”
Curry, who has been dealing with knee discomfort, scored 35 points on 12-for-23 shooting, including 7-for-12 from deep. Warriors coach Steve Kerr put the two-time MVP on minutes restriction due to that issue. However, in the do-or-die game against the Clippers, the superstar played 36 minutes, his most since Jan. 22.
Steph Curry had 24 points after three quarters to give the Warriors a chance for a come-from-behind win. He added 11 more in the final 12 minutes to carry his team to another elimination game on Friday against the Phoenix Suns.
Draymond Green contributed seven points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals. Green was all over the floor on defense. He spent stretches guarding Kawhi Leonard, Brook Lopez and even Darius Garland.
The Warriors are still alive because their stars refused to quit even when the team was shorthanded.
Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Warriors Will Face Suns in Do-Or-Die Matchup
The Warriors’ win against the Clippers earned them the right to face the Phoenix Suns for a do-or-die showdown on Friday. Steph Curry, Draymond Green and the Dubs will fly to Phoenix for the game that will decide the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.
Despite playing injuries to key players, the Warriors will like their chances against the Suns. Golden State won the regular season series 3-1. The Dubs’ only loss in the head-to-head games was a 99-98 defeat in mid-December. If not for a sloppy late-game stretch for the Warriors, they could have left Phoenix with a victory.
As long as Steph Curry and Draymond Green are available, the Warriors could still punch a playoff ticket at the Suns’ expense.
