Earlier in the week, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day outlined the importance of discussing mental health in our society.
While appearing on the popular podcast “The Triple Option” alongside Rob Stone, Mark Ingram II, and Urban Meyer, Day detailed how the topic is very personal to him and how amazing the mental health support systems are in the Columbus and Ohio area.

What Did Ryan Day Say About the Importance of Mental Health?
Day made clear that the Ohio area has some of the best support systems he has seen, something that he believes allows players and fans to feel more comfortable in discussing their own personal struggles with mental health.
“Mental health has always been important to me based on the way that I grew up and some of the things that you know, I experienced growing up,” Day stated. “So, through Nationwide Children, through OSU [Ohio State University], I think Columbus is the leader in the country in the mental health space.
“I think it’s good for Buckeye Nation, for Columbus, for Ohio, to see guys who are at the biggest stage there is where they see big, strong guys who are still willing to say, ‘hey man, yeah I’m struggling today, I need a little help. Just like I do if I sprain my ankle.'”
Day’s Leadership at Ohio State Has Paid Off
As head coach of one of the largest and most-followed college football programs in the nation, Day’s words have the ability to reach a large number of people who may be struggling with mental health. As clear from the video, Day has been a leader off the field in the Ohio State community and is leading the effort in raising awareness for such an important cause.

On the field, Day and the Buckeyes have been successful as well. This past season, Ohio State won a national championship after defeating the Tennessee Volunteers, the Oregon Ducks, the Texas Longhorns, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff.
