Notre Dame played with a vengeance in Week 3, delivering Purdue its worst loss in program history. Now, the Irish return home to face the winless Miami (OH) RedHawks.
Just two weeks ago, Notre Dame suffered a shocking upset at home against Northern Illinois, marking their first-ever loss to a MAC opponent. But this one should be a bit different.
This will be the third meeting between Notre Dame and Miami (OH), with the Irish winning the previous two by a combined score of 98-17.

The Fighting Irish did their best to distance themselves from the loss to NIU with their performance last week against Purdue. They led the Boilermakers by 42 points before halftime and eventually won by 59. They will look to make that loss appear more of an outlier if they can comfortably cover the spread, which they have done in their other two games thus far in 2024.
Notre Dame is 11-4-1 against the spread since the start of last season, which includes a 4-2-1 mark at Notre Dame Stadium. Over that same time frame, the Irish are 4-1 against the number when favored by 20+ points, with the lone blemish coming two weeks ago at home against the Huskies.
Miami (OH) has failed to cover the spread in each of its outright losses to begin the season, falling as three-point underdogs to both Northwestern (lost by 7) and Cincinnati (lost by 11). The RedHawks are 13-10 ATS in the underdog role over the past five seasons, including a 1-2 ATS mark against AP-ranked opponents over that span.
Prediction for Miami (OH) vs. Notre Dame
Four different Notre Dame players rushed for touchdowns in last week’s win over Purdue (QB Riley Leonard, Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price, Kenny Minchey), marking the first time the Irish achieved that since Nov. 25, 2000, against USC.
Though Leonard has yet to throw his first touchdown pass in a Notre Dame uniform, he leads the team with four rushing scores this season.
Rushing should be a clear advantage for the Irish, especially after Miami (OH) was outgained 215-26 on the ground in their home loss to Cincinnati last week.
Notre Dame’s strong response against Purdue was exactly what fans were hoping for.
While the early loss to Northern Illinois still stings, the Irish passed their first test of adversity with flying colors. Now, they face a winless Miami (OH) squad with two starters out on the offensive line.
With Notre Dame’s depth and talent, they should handle this challenge similarly, as Miami (OH) doesn’t present the same threat as Northern Illinois.

The RedHawks have only scored two offensive touchdowns this season, and their leading rusher has a grand total of 33 yards.
There’s a reason this game opened with a 24-point spread, and it’s up to 28 after nearly 95% of bets against the spread came in on the Irish.
Prediction: Notre Dame 42, Miami (OH) 6
