Will Darryn Peterson Play vs California Baptist Lancers?

The game against California is on Friday and at this point, all signs point to Darryn Peterson playing. He has been cleared and is available for the NCAA Tournament. Coming into this matchup, Peterson has played seven straight games without any issues.

Ahead of the NCAA Tournament, Kansas head coach Bill Self shared a positive update on Peterson, who has struggled to remain on the court.

“He tells me, and I believe it, and I see it, that he’s moving, and this is the best he’s felt all year,” Self said. “So I’m excited about moving forward with our full complement of guys closer to 100 percent.”

Even Peterson seems to have figured out how to stay away from injuries and be present on the court whenever the team needs him.

“If I had the ability to play in the games that I missed, I would have, and it just wasn’t smart at the time,” Peterson said Thursday. “I didn’t really know what was going on with my body, but once I got it figured out, I was out there and did what I could.”

Earlier in the season, he dealt with a hamstring injury, ankle issues and severe cramping episodes. He missed as many as 11 games and in other games, he checked himself out early. But those issues are now largely behind him and Self will enjoy him fully in the NCAA Tournament.

This season, Peterson is averaging 19.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 44.2% shooting, including 38.4% from the 3-point line. Moreover, he has recorded 0.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

With Peterson, Kansas looks more solid and California shouldn’t pose much of a challenge to them. Still, anything can happen in March Madness as we’ve seen with the upset loss of the North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday night.
