Who Is Tom Izzo’s Wife? Exploring the Michigan State Head Coach’s Personal Life

Izzo married Lupe Marinez Izzo in 1992. The coaching legend and Lupe have a daughter, Raquel, and son, Steven, who played for the Spartans from 2019-2024.

Lupe was born in Texas but has lived in East Lansing her whole life. She now spends most of her time working at The Izzo Legacy Family Fund.

The Izzo Legacy Family Fund was created to honor Izzo’s impact and legacy while celebrating hard work, Spartans, family, community, and charitable giving. The fund benefits a variety of Greater Lansing-based charities selected by the Izzo family and is led by Izzoo’s daughter.

Izzo’s wife is one of eleven children and considers herself a “loyal community activist,” she told Greater Lansing Area Moms.

She told Greater Lansing Area Moms she met Izzo through her sister-in-law, who worked at the basketball office and was Jud Heathcote’s secretary.

“She invited me to Tom’s house after a big game to celebrate, and I didn’t know I was there to meet him at the time. Tom also had his girlfriend there. I knew this because a friend of mine that was there told me. The next day he called, I asked him if he had a girlfriend, he said he did have someone he was dating,” Lupe said.

“I told him not to call me again unless he didn’t have a girlfriend and hung up on him. He called me back shortly after that. I was 35 when I met him, I had been running a business for 25 years in Lansing where I had men salesmen plus seven brothers! I didn’t have time to play games with him. It wasn’t love at first sight but throughout the years we have grown so much together and have a strong marriage.”
