The Kentucky Wildcats, coached by Mark Pope, have turned their luck around when it comes to player recruitment from high school and the transfer portal in the current offseason. Just days after they secured the commitment of former Iowa State Cyclones forward Milan Momcilovic, the Wildcats were able to snag DME Academy standout Ryan Hampton, who will make his debut in the 2026-27 season.
Hampton, who hails from Daytona Beach, Florida, is currently the sixth-ranked five-star recruit in the high school class of 2027. The young talent is best known for his ability to operate as a wing. Doing damage from the perimeter, Hampton is reportedly great with his soft touch around the basket with floaters, teardrops, and layups. Coupled with his lengthy wingspan and mid-range jump shot, Hampton can become a great two-way piece for Kentucky.
Along with the announcement of his commitment, Hampton also shared photos of his official visit on his Instagram page. As he continues to develop his skillset as a wing, Hampton will enter his final year of high school hoops in the upcoming 2026-27 season. From there, he’ll be joining coach Pope and company during the 2027 offseason before his college debut.
Ryan Hampton said that Mo Williams sealed the deal on his Kentucky Wildcats commitment
College hoops insider Joe Tipton of On3 was able to interview Ryan Hampton ahead of his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats. When Hampton was asked about what the leading factor was that led to his decision, he revealed that assistant coach Mo Williams was the one who sealed the deal. Hampton said that his family had already built a great relationship with the former NBA player.
“I chose Kentucky because of coach Pope and coach Mo Williams. They showed me a vision and a plan for me to reach my ultimate dreams and goals. They will challenge me to be the best I can be on and off the court. The development piece was key. They actually showed me, through film and analytics, how and what I can do to get better. But let’s be honest, coach Mo Williams closed the deal. He’s been a friend of my dad for a long time, so my family has trust in him,” Hampton was quoted as saying.
