Tyran Stokes was one of the top prospects for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats in this year’s recruiting class. However, the consensus five-star forward announced his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks despite a visit to Lexington before making his decision.
Now, Stokes has once again become the talk of the town on social media following a recent photo of an alleged Snapchat conversation between him and a female student at the University of Kentucky.
In the photo, the girl allegedly tries to influence Tyran Stokes’ commitment by promising him companionship if he joins the Wildcats.
Fans in the comments claimed that Mark Pope was involved, alleging that he tried everything to secure the five-star prospect’s commitment.
“This is Mark Pope catfishing him,” one fan commented.
“Wow I knew Mark Pope was desperate, but offering this, wow…” another fan said.
“Mark Pope catfishing for recruits now? I’ve seen it all,” a fan wrote.
“100% Mark Pope,” another fan said.
“Mark Pope moving crazy on Snapchat,” a fan joked.
Bill Self excited about securing Tyran Stokes commitment
Tyran Stokes becomes the second consecutive No. 1 recruit to sign with the Kansas Jayhawks after Darryn Peterson. Coach Bill Self released a statement talking about the signing and praising the five-star forward.
“Yesterday was a big day for our program, landing the consensus number one player in the 2026 class,” Self said. “Tyran is as versatile a youngster that I’ve ever recruited. He can score and he’s a terrific rebounder.
“He’s powerful and can be a great facilitator, and maybe what he does best is pass the basketball. He’s had far more exposure to basketball than most kids his age and will come in here with the ability to live up to the lofty expectations that will be placed on him by others.”
Since taking over the Kansas program in 2003, Self has led it to two national championships. Last season, it qualified for March Madness. However, its quest for a third trophy ended following a second-round loss to the St. John’s Red Storm.
