Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope continues to enjoy life through basketball as he has dedicated his whole life to the sport. After a two-year stint with the Washington Huskies, Pope finished his college basketball playing career with the Wildcats. He was then drafted with the 52nd pick in the 1996 NBA Draft, and after a nine-year stint playing professional basketball, Pope decided to become a college hoops coach.
Now in his third year as head coach of the Kentucky-based program, Pope continues to hone his skills. Off the court, though, Pope is married with four kids. His wife, Lee Ann Pope, was a former assistant to American talk show host David Letterman. Just recently, Mark Pope shared great news about his wife’s health. The tenured tactician shared that she just had surgery, and shared a photo on X/Twitter of him bringing her home.
“Brought Lee Anne home from surgery today. She is the love of my life and the toughest person I know. Sincerest thanks to the great medical team at UK Healthcare,” Pope said.

Mark Pope is seemingly in high spirits, being an integral part of the University of Kentucky. He gave credit to the healthcare sector of the school for their successful procedure on his wife. The 53-year-old will now continue on with the current offseason in preparation for the 2026-27 collegiate hoops campaign. Last year, Pope and his Wildcats were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

In an interview with Kentucky Wildcats insider Chris Beasmore of the Sea of Blue last November, Mark Pope admitted that he and his wife actually talk about his team at home. Mark Pope shared that Lee Ann Pope actually gives her insights on the outlook of the team, and the former takes it into consideration.
“We talk a lot of hoops at the house. Talk about the guys. Talk about them as individuals. Lee was at practice yesterday, and I tell you, it’s such a gift. I can’t tell you how much it matters, especially when I’m in a space like this where I’m just gonna have to be hard driving,” Pope was quoted as saying.
