NC State are clearly not happy with LSU poaching their former head coach Will Wade, and it appears that the University might be taking a legal route to fix matters.
And as they do that, NC State have been advised to perhaps take an alternative approach to the matter, and potentially reach a settlement with LSU that would involve an extra cash injection.
“Pay the extra $1M of the buyout (which LSU would have done anyway) plus attorneys fees and everyone go on living their lives,” was the suggestion from Louisiana-based TV host Matt Moscona, as the battle between LSU and NC State begins to get uglier.
Controversy is never far when Will Wade is around, and while his first tenure at LSU was filled with perhaps even more legal struggles, this one certainly has the potential to be just as bad if not managed carefully.
Will Wade is already courting trouble by making it his transfer portal strategy to recruit players who ideally shouldn’t have any eligibility left after returning to college, and seems to be banking on the legal system to get him out of trouble as annoyed ADs watch on as he continues with his plan.
What is NC State Alleging LSU Did Wrong?
Per the latest report, NC State believes that LSU made an effort to minimize Will Wade’s buyout fee through collusion with Wade himself.
“The timing and circumstances of Coach Wade’s departure from Raleigh and his resignation, along with the LSU term sheet, and the eventual [buyout] payment of $4 million to NC State raise questions about LSU’s potential liability in this matter,” NC State General Counsel Allison B. Newhart reportedly wrote to LSU’s General Counsel Carlton Jones.
“NC State has not agreed — and does not agree now — to release LSU from any liability. Instead, NC State is investigating whether LSU improperly induced Coach Wade to breach his employment agreement, induced Coach Wade to terminate his employment agreement, and interfered with the timing of termination of the employment agreement to result in lower liquidation damages — all to NC State’s detriment,” she continued, adding to the belief that Wade and LSU might be involved in wrongdoing.
