The UConn Huskies may have made it to the NCAA National Championship Game, but they seem to have hit a big bump on the road. Solo Ball, who had been instrumental in their run to the final, has reportedly been injured and is currently walking with a boot ahead of their finals showdown against the Michigan Wolverines.
This was confirmed by head coach Dan Hurley on Sunday, saying that Solo Ball suffered a sprained foot during their Final Four win over Illinois and did not participate in practice.
“Solo just sprained a foot early in the game,” the coach said. . “So he was able to finish in the game. He won’t participate in anything today. We’ll see how he’s feeling tomorrow.”
As the coach revealed, Ball’s injury is nothing serious but they are just letting him rest for now. They are currently employing a wait-and-see approach as to whether he could practice on Sunday or even be able to play on Monday’s big game. Hurley even joked about his player’s predicament.
“Thankfully it’s not a seven game series,” he joked. “Tough to get an MRI on Sunday.”
With a very dominant team in Michigan standing against them ahead of the national championship game, Dan Hurley and his squad will need Solo Ball’s services. He is currently the third best scorer in the team, averaging 12.9 points per game. Ball did show a lot of toughness against Illinois, finishing the game despite spraining his ankle earlier.
Solo Ball Not Only Star Injured Ahead of NCAA National Championship Game
UConn’s Solo Ball might not be the only star possibly missing the NCAA National Championship Game on Monday, as reports also indicate that Michigan star forward Yaxel Lendeborg also got hurt during the Final Four.
Michigan faced a physical Arizona Wildcats squad in the Final Four and won, but they did not leave unscathed as Lendeborg had to wear a protective brace on his knee and left the game for some time. He did return in the second half though.
With Ball and Lendeborg possibly missing the game due to injury, it should be safe to say that both teams will not be playing at 100%. If they are playing, there is a chance that they might also be playing hurt.
