Quinnipiac Transfer Amarri Monroe Receives Interest from UConn, Xavier, Butler & More

Amarri Monroe, a standout forward from Quinnipiac, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, generating strong interest from major programs. The Newburgh, New York native was the first player to enter on Friday after spending two seasons with the Bobcats.

Monroe, the 2024-25 MAAC Player of the Year, also secured a spot on the All-MAAC First Team. His defensive impact was equally impressive, breaking Quinnipiac’s single-season steals record for the second straight year. He also earned NABC All-District Second Team honors, solidifying his reputation as a two-way force.

Quinnipiac Standout Amarri Monroe Attracts High-Major Interest

The Quinnipiac forward has emerged as a sought-after transfer, drawing interest from multiple high-major programs. Schools reaching out include UConn, Xavier, Butler, Miami, DePaul, and Maryland. Monroe is also considering visits to Memphis and Ole Miss.

Monroe, a 6’7″ junior, was a dominant force for the Bobcats in the 2024-25 season. He averaged 18.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game, ranking second in the MAAC in steals. He set Quinnipiac’s single-season steals record for the second straight year while also showcasing elite scoring ability.

His standout performances included a stretch where he posted double-doubles in seven of eight games to close the season, highlighted by a 29-point, 10-rebound outing against Canisius on Feb. 6. Starting 31 of 32 games, Monroe’s all-around impact made him one of the conference’s top players.

Since entering the transfer portal, Monroe has received interest from 13 schools, including five teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament: Texas A&M, Creighton, Memphis, Louisville, and Ole Miss. Big Ten programs Ohio State and Penn State have also expressed interest, according to On3.

Since Rutgers will need a major overhaul after the 15-17 season and is expected to lose two of its main players, Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, to the NBA Draft, Rutgers may be a possible new home for them.

In the meantime, the Texas A&M team, which has just been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Michigan, is considering the option of replacing the key departures, especially its leading scorer Wade Taylor IV.

Head Coach Buzz Williams contacted Monroe, considering him a potentially important part of the team alongside Pharrell Payne, who showed his skills during the tournament. Monroe is one of the most important players in the portal because he can score, rebound, and secure the ball at a high level.
