AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson are two names that have been in almost every conversation related to men’s college basketball lately. Both freshmen have taken the college basketball world by storm. They have maintained their hype after impressive high school careers.
Dybantsa has averaged 23.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 20 games so far. On the other hand, Peterson’s freshman career has had a few hurdles, with a hamstring injury and a break in his recovery due to cramping. He is averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Despite only playing 10 games, he has shown why he might be the possible first NBA draft pick this year. Many believe that if not him, AJ Dybantsa is the other option.
Kansas Jayhawks’ Darryn Peterson will return to action on Saturday against the BYU Cougars, and what better game to return than a battle with a competitor like AJ Dybantsa. Like many others, ex-Kansas player and Celtics legend Paul Pierce believes that Kansas vs BYU will have a huge impact on the first pick in the NBA draft. He and Kevin Garnett reviewed the upcoming blockbuster game.
Garnett asked what type of game the fans should expect and how good Kansas has been this year. Pierce answered:
“They good. They top 20 in the nation. It’s gonna be high energy. You got projected number one and two picks playing in this game. You know you gotta expect being in Lawrence in the fieldhouse. High energy. BYU has a lot of expectations. Obviously, you know what comes with coming to Kansas and in that building, how hard it is to. We don’t play in there.”
Garnett asked if it is hard to play against Kansas at Kansas. Pierce replied:
“I know it used to be. I know it used to be. Yeah, it’s tough to get a win in Kansas right now. It’s one of the toughest places to play in all of the world. You might just get overwhelmed in the layup line looking around like what is this?”
“BYU is ranked 13th. We ranked 14th. coming off 43. They almost came back and beat Arizona. They coming excited about this. Yeah, this is this going to be a good game. You know what’s coming to the next level, you know, these two guys are projected the No. 1 pick, and so I think whoever wins this game will probably be the No. 1 pick and play well,” Pierce added.
Paul Pierce Looks Forward to His First Visit to a Kansas Game in 15 Years
Celtics legend showed his excitement and reminisced about his time at Kansas. He said that BYU vs Kansas will be his first time attending a Kansas game in over 15 years. He admitted that it is going to be a big deal for him to step back in there.
“It’s going to give me chills and just like memories. I’mma walk the campus and see just where I used to live and everything. I ain’t been to campus in like so long, man. I know a lot has changed since I’ve been there, but I can’t wait to get there,” he said.
