Nike Faces Backlash After AJ Dybantsa’s Signature Logo Causes Confusion Among Fans

A new logo, created by sportswear giant Nike for BYU Cougars forward AJ Dybantsa, has stirred up confusion among fans over its complicated design.

On Tuesday, Nike unveiled its custom signature logo for Dybantsa as the young talent is steadily growing in popularity globally, causing him to earn his own logo from the brand since he is a signed athlete with them.

However, fans have speculated on the design and theme with the said logo, as it is deemed not to showcase Dybantsa’s name clearly. With this, @brkicks on Instagram decided to give their own take on what Dybantsa’s Nike logo is supposed to look like and represent in a carousel Instagram post they uploaded on Wednesday.

Fans online are now wishing for Nike to revisit the design, saying that Dybantsa deserves better.

“Yeaaah back to the drawing board Nike,” one fan said.

“It’s just Ja’s logo mirrored and put in a star shape,” another fan shared.

“This the laziest sh*t Nike done ever made,” another user claimed with a couple of laughing emojis.

“If it takes Bleacher Report Kicks to explain a brand’s logo design…It might not be that good of a design lol,” a user commented.

“Yeah, the visual was not there even with the explanation. Maybe just do the signature in cursive for a bit ’til they get the logo right,” one fan wrote.

“First of all, that’s an unnecessary reach wtf? Secondly, why does his logo have to have his initials? Where are Jordan and Kobe’s initials?” another user posted.

“Why y’all tryna force us to understand it, it still makes no sense,” a user pointed out.

Despite the backlash over his Nike logo, Dybantsa remains one of the most highly-touted prospects heading into this year’s NBA Draft. As one of the projected top picks overall, Dybantsa recently finished his freshman year of collegiate hoops with coach Kevin Young‘s Cougars in the 2025-26 season. The Brockton, Massachusetts, native led them to the first round of the 2026 NCAA tournament.

BR Kicks Shows That AJ Dybantsa’s Nike Logo Is Supposed To Be His Initials

In the said post by @brkicks on Instagram, it is shown that AJ Dybantsa’s logo is supposed to represent the letters in his name, A, J, and D.

As pointed out by the same upload, perhaps the confusion in the basketball world over the logo and why they can’t see Dybantsa’s initials is due to the fact that the aforementioned letters are meticulously shaped into a star.
