After a year playing for the Virginia Tech Hoakies, Greek guard Neoklis Avdalas is reportedly moving on and is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. He had been one of the best players for the school, averaging 12.1 points and 4.6 assists per game this season.
The Hoakies ended the season with a 19-13 overall record and fell to Wake Forest during the first round of the ACC Tournament. The Greek freshman was one of the most efficient players in the squad and would make for a great backcourt presence for any team. The question now is, where should he go?
5 Teams That Could Target Neoklis Avdalas
Kansas Jayhawks
After this season, the Kansas Jayhawks are largely seen to move on from Darryn Peterson and look for a new guard. After all the drama, Peterson did not gel well with his team despite putting up monster numbers and a player like Neoklis Avdalas could be a refreshing change, with Peterson expected to enter the NBA draft as a one-and-done.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Another team that might be losing a star freshman guard to the NBA draft would be Arkansas, as Darius Acuff Jr. might be a one-and-done as well. Acuff has been a scoring machine, with John Calipari possibly getting a new project to develop in Avdalas, who is known for his great potential.
LSU Tigers
LSU is rebuilding… again. After a disastrous season and one fired head coach, the Tigers may be dipping into the transfer portal and might be in the market for a new guard, and Neoklis Avdalas could prove to be a good fit.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers are keeping Penny Hardaway as head coach, and he asked the school for some changes. As a premiere guard himself, Penny Hardaway knows what it takes to be an elite guard, and he could develop Avdalas into a more elite player.
St. John’s Red Storm
Head coach Rick Pitino knows his way around international players, especially Greek players. After all, he used to be the head coach for the Greek national team. Avdalas should be at home with Pitino, who is also known for player development.
