Nate Oats and Alabama had an active transfer portal. After losing the Sweet Sixteen game vs eventual champions Michigan, the Crimson Tides were bound to have a reboot of the roster. 4 major names left the team as there were 7 additions as well.
Sophomore forward Aiden Sherrell transferred to Indiana Hoosies, sophomore guard Jalil Bethea to Pittsburgh Panthers, junior forward Taylor Bol Bowen to Oregon Ducks and freshman guard Davion Hannah to South Carolina Gamecocks.
Apart from adding multiple players with versatility, physicality and experience in mind, Nate Oats would be over the moon to learn that one of his main players from last season has decided to return to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“NEWS: Amari Allen is withdrawing from the NBA Draft and returning to Alabama, he told @On3. The 6-7 wing averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game as a freshman for the Crimson Tide. Allen had been projected as a late first-round pick in the NBA Draft,” NBA draft analyst Joseph Tipton reported.
Amari Allen’s return will be a huge plus point for Nate Oats and co. Apart from that, incoming transfers for Alabama also include 6’10 center Brandon Garrison from Kentucky, forward Cole Cloer from NC State, 6’11 center Drew Fielder from Boise State and 6’10 two way player Jamarion Davis-Fleming from Mississippi State who can play both forward and center.
The Crimson Tide have also welcomed 3 freshmen – Qayden Samuels, Jaxon Richardson and Tarris Bouie. Oats has quite an interesting mix of youth, adaptability, and experience.
Fans react as Amari Allen withdraws from the NBA draft
Fans were excited to see Amari Allen return to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“Love this for Nate Oats and Allen,” one fan said.
“Just FYI, his official measured height for the NBA was 6’5 1/4″. I tend to believe that’s part of the reason he elected to return,” one fan suspected.
“Qayden Samuels and Jaxon Richardson, Cole Cloer, Garrison and Drew Fielder now Amari Allen! Hell of an athletic team,” another fan praised.
“Alabama will be the natty favorites,” one fan claimed.
“Great news, Amari! Let’s get it done & finish strong this year. Roll Tide,” another cheered.
“The smart move..Has to a chance to be a lottery pick next yr and it’s not like he is playing for free this year,” another commented.
