Mark Pope’s Kentucky cannot catch a break. Unfortunately, their transfer portal has been far from ideal. Pope’s biggest shortcoming this season has been the rejection from Tyran Stokes. For weeks, speculations suggested that he will commit to Kentucky. However, he ended up choosing Kansas eventually.
Not just Tyran Stokes, multiple players have picked other teams over Kentucky. Donnie Freeman (St. John’s), Rob Wright III (return to BYU), Jalen Haralson (Tennessee), Terrence Hill Jr. (Tennessee), Sebastian Rancik (Florida State) and Anthony Robinson II (Florida State).
The list has unfortunately only increased with time. There has been no stone unturned by Mark Pope. Reportedly, he even flew to Israel in order to recruit Brazilian center Marcio Santos. Unfortunately, that trip was in vain. Kentucky has missed out on another target as Marcio Santos becomes another foreign player to commit to LSU.
Recently, Jeff Goodman commented on Santos joining Will Wade’s LSU.
“He’s a man. He’s been playing with men for a few years. He’s light years ahead of most of these college kids physically. Average athlete, not a great athlete. Not fast, not overly mobile. More of a power guy. More of an undersized 5 than he is a 4. He’s a guy who can shoot the ball from that five-man spot,” Goodman said.
Will Wade’s LSU finds another international star
As Will Wade has returned to LSU for his second stint with the team. This time around he has changed the recruiting strategy. He is solely focused on bringing in international recruits.
“This year I’m going to lean a little heavier on the international route,” said Wade. “This will be the last year some of those guys will be eligible. So we’re going to lean a little heavier on the international route. Those kids have a lot of experience. There’s just some natural things that they’ve learned over there that really help college basketball and can translate to us in college basketball.”
