The Kentucky Wildcats had a disappointing season, filled with injuries and an early exit from the NCAA Tournament, losing to Iowa State in the second round. Now, they are also losing one of their biggest stars, as Jaland Lowe revealed that he will be entering the transfer portal soon.
Lowe’s time at Lexington was disappointing after so much promise. He suffered through a shoulder injury and only played nine games for the Wildcats. He was supposed to be their starting point guard, but those injuries caught up to him and hampered his season.
He only averaged 8.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Soon after his announcement, he posted a message on Instagram:
“Thank you BBN! Always Love!” he wrote.

This will be a big loss for Mark Pope, as Jaland Lowe was his only true point guard coming into the 2025-26 season. He will now have to dip into the transfer portal himself to find a suitable replacement or rely on his recruits coming in from the high school class of 2026.
So far, he has four-star recruit Mason Williams, the son of former NBA guard Mo Williams, as a prospective playmaker for next season. However, this is only a verbal commitment, so he can still flip, much like what Acaden Lewis did last year.
Jaland Lowe Previously Said He Had a ‘Plan’ To Return to Kentucky Next Season
As the season went on, Jaland Lowe may have been planning to stay in Lexington. The redshirt point guard was asked if he had plans to stay in Kentucky, and here is what he had to say:
“That’s the plan.”
This meant that he originally wanted to stay with Mark Pope’s squad. However, his shoulder troubles got the best of him this season.
He originally got injured during the preseason, dislocating his shoulder and missed a few games early in the season before returning in November. He aggravated his injured shoulder in January, forcing him to get a season-ending shoulder surgery.
This meant that the Wildcats did not have a true point guard through the late season and the postseason but still made it to the NCAA Tournament.
