LeBron James’ Son Bryce Hit With Major Roadblock As HC Tommy Lloyd Reveals Future Plans

LeBron James’ son, Bryce James, announced his commitment to the University of Arizona at the beginning of 2025. Bryce committed to play for the Wildcats after months of speculation about his college career.

In April last year, he officially signed with the Wildcats, putting the final stamp of approval on the decision that was made months ago. Then, the anticipation started to build up around his first year.

Needless to say, being LeBron James’ son brings more attention and limelight than one is usually prepared for at such a young age. But Bryce has always been more than just the son of his superstar father.

He plays the shooting guard position, and his skills on the court are often outlined in the media. Bryce possesses the skill and the training to reach the pinnacle of this sport.

The Wildcats have played 22 games this season so far. They stand as the only undefeated team in the Big 12. Bryce has yet to play a single minute for the Wildcats. But the wait is not going to be over soon.

Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd announced on Tuesday that Bryce will officially redshirt his freshman season at Arizona.

“Bryce has made huge progress. The red-shirting decision is a long play, to give Bryce the most options as his career unfolds. I have a real strong believe that Bryce will be a contributor at Arizona in the near future,” Lloyd said, per Chancellor Johnson.

The Wildcats would’ve otherwise given him limited minutes throughout the season, which would cost him a full year of eligibility. In this scenario, they’ll be able to develop him more and stretch his college eligibility for better results in the future.

Tommy Lloyd is Focusing on Bryce James’ Physical Maturity

Being able to spend more time in the program will allow Bryce to learn their system. He can develop a lot by simply observing and participating in practice with the team. More importantly, it’ll give him more time to develop physically.

During his conversation with Johnson, Lloyd stated that Bryce is already a year behind in his class in terms of his age. At this stage, it’s more important for him to physically develop because he has plenty of time to become a major contributor.

“When you’re a year behind your natural age class, we know some of these kids are a year or two older… Part of the thinking was, let’s slow it down and let Bryce’s physical development catch up with his peers. And it really has,” he added.

Lloyd stated that Bryce is “a normal kid” and he’s already a great teammate. The 18-year-old doesn’t draw any extra attention to himself and likes to focus on his game and the team.
