Kenny Smith Reveals Role in Introducing Caleb Wilson to UNC Legend as Viral Pic Emerges

NBA legend and now famous NBA analyst Kenny Smith recently revealed his role in introducing North Carolina Tar Heels standout Caleb Wilson to a legend of the program, Charlie Scott. On Saturday, Jan. 31, Smith uploaded a photo to his X/Twitter account, featuring himself, UNC spitfire scorer Wilson, and Scott.

The picture was presumably taken after Wilson and the rest of coach Hubert Davis’ Tar Heels defeated coach Damon Stoudamire’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 91-75 on the latter’s home court, the McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, Georgia. During a recent “Inside the NBA” segment, Smith was asked how the photo came about.

“A win, you know, we go through the ACC, it’s not like…Coming to Georgia Tech, you know, it’s not a big thing. Charlie Scott, yes, sir. You know what the great thing about today was? But Caleb had, didn’t really know who Charlie Scott was. Obviously, he’s too young. He shouldn’t have known. But Len explaining, I say, ‘Wait, Caleb, this is the first African American basketball player in the ACC and with North Carolina,'” Smith shared.

“‘He’s not just, and he’s an NBA All-Star.’ And then he goes, ‘Really?’ I said, ‘Wait, and he had 2000 points in three years.’ He’s like, ‘Dang.’ He’s like, now he understood who Charlie Scott was,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wilson continues his impressive freshman stint in college basketball as Smith and the rest of the UNC faithful are rallying behind him. Before being a reliable guard for teams like the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings, Smith played his collegiate hoops tenure at UNC from 1983 to 1987.
