With the announcement that his college basketball priority teams have been narrowed to three, high school basketball phenom Tyran Stokes commented on where exactly he could be headed. On Thursday, Jan. 29, Stokes appeared in a video by @sportscenternext on Instagram, as he was being interviewed during his 2026 Panini HoopHall Classic MVP coronation ceremony.
Stokes was asked whether he had decided where he wants to play collegiate hoops in his freshman stint later this year. Stokes is reportedly choosing between three powerhouse programs for the 2026-27 season: coach Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats, coach Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks, and coach Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks.
“Whenever God tells me to,” Stokes shared as he was asked about the timeline of his collegiate basketball commitment. When asked if there is a school he is leaning towards, he said, “ No, sir, to the locker room.”
“SC Next No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes is keeping us on the edge of our seats 👀,” SportsCenter NEXT wrote on Instagram.
Stokes is in his senior year of high school hoops as the superstar small forward for Rainier Beach, and is currently the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit among all five-star prospects, according ot 247Sports. The Kentucky native has had prior stints in high school with top squads, such as Prolific Prep and, most recently, Notre Dame, for his junior year.
While he has not yet given any indication of his future, the three aforementioned programs could be on a level playing field for the highly-touted standout. Nevertheless, it is more than likely that he has already declined offers from coach Eric Musselman’s USC Trojans and coach Pat Kelsey’s Louisville Cardinals to focus on these three teams.
Tyran Stokes Had A Photoshoot In Oregon Ducks Gear In 2025
While Tyran Stokes is not giving any hints towards his college basketball commitment, he did do a photoshoot in Oregon Ducks gear last September.
In a carousel post on Instagram, Stokes is seen wearing both the home and away uniforms of coach Dana Altman’s Ducks and is seen sitting on a throne. He also included a photo with his mother, along with a caption that read:
“Sooo ducks¿?”
