    John Calipari Reveals Reasons for Skipping All-Star Game as his Ex-Players Shine on Big Stage

    Arkansas Razorbacks head coach John Calipari didn’t travel to Los Angeles for the NBA All-Star weekend even though several of his student-athletes are in action. Calipari took to X and shared his reason for absence.

    Calipari shared that the primary reason behind his absence was scheduling conflicts. His Razorbacks had a late game the night before against Auburn and an upcoming road game against Alabama.

    “Normally, I would travel to the NBA All-Star weekend, but with our late game last night and a road game coming up, I am not going to make it to Los Angeles today,” Calipari said.

    Calipari’s Arkansas defeated Auburn 88-75 at home to improve to 19-6 on the season.

    John Calipari Was Really Looking Forward to Attend NBA All-Star Weekend

    The Razorbacks head coach shared the players he was looking forward to seeing during the All-Star festivities. John Calipari also mentioned the six NBA All-Star players he coached taking part in the All-Star game.

    “It’s a great weekend to celebrate the successes of our young men and the families who have trusted us with their sons,” Calipari said. I was looking forward to seeing Reed Sheppard who was selected to the Rising Stars game and Arkansas’ own Bobby Portis, who was in the three-point contest, as well as the six All-Stars who I coached: Devin Booker, Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Karl-Anthony Towns, De’Aaron Fox and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who won’t be able to play.”

    He congratulated all his former and current players to making it to the event:

    “Congratulations to you all on the great first half of your season and I hope you and your families have enjoyed every second of your special weekend! Thank you for all that you have done for my programs and for all that you do to grow our game!”

    Reed Sheppard featured in the Rising Stars Challenge that happened on Friday. Bobby Portis participated in the State Farm 3-Point Contest. Devin Booker, Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Karl-Anthony Towns and De’Aaron Fox played in the unique NBA All-Star format. All of these players were part of Kentucky, where Calipari once used to coach.
