Jamier Jones, a Big East All-Freshman selection for Providence this season, has decided to join the transfer portal. Out of high school, Jones was considered a four-star recruit by 247Sports and the 43rd-best recruit in the class of 2025.
Here are some potential destinations for him in his sophomore season.
5 Potential Landing Spots for Jamier Jones During Transfer Portal
#5 Kansas Jayhawks
The Jawyhawks of Bill Self were among the finalists to recruit Jamier Jones out of high school. Kansas is always looking to add elite high school talent, and as the eighth-best power forward in the nation, he qualified. Now he’s back on the market after a breakthrough Big East debut season. Why not bring him in as Bill attempts to reconstruct a roster that hasn’t made the Sweet 16 since 2022?
#4 Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State was another finalist for getting him after high school, so it’s likely that they will be on the lookout once more. Unlike with Kansas, he did visit Columbus during his senior high school year. His abilities as a transition scorer and to finish above the rim will likely be appreciated by a Buckeyes team that has been languishing mid-table for a while.
#3 Houston Cougars
Another team that tried to recruit Jamier Jones out of high school was Houston. The Cougars are an interesting option, as they continued to show this season that they should be considered a blue blood of the modern era of college basketball. Just last season, they finished as runners-up in the NCAA Tournament.
This season, they didn’t win either the Big 12 regular season or tournament titles, and they just made it to the Sweet 16. However, they can be a team with which Jones could have a national title run. If anything, the fact that they didn’t do well this season gives him an opportunity.
#2 South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina hasn’t been all that competitive since 2017, when they made it to the Final Four. Since then, they have made March Madness only once, and only to the first round. They pale in comparison to the women’s team. The allure here for Jamier Jones is clear; unlike the other programs, he could be the start of a rebuilding Gamecocks roster, and it gives him a chance of playing in the SEC, where NIL money is abundant.
#1 LSU Tigers
This is a similar reasoning to that of South Carolina, with the difference that the LSU Tigers were considered the finalists alongside Providence to get Jamier Jones out of high school. His arrival at Baton Rouge would also coincide with the significant rebuilding Will Wade is about to start at LSU.
The program has been in disarray for several years now, thanks to Wade’s actions in his first stint. Players like Jones, with a high ceiling and multiple years of eligibility, are exactly what they need.
