One of the most recognizable names in NBA history, Jamal Crawford, has become a topic of discussion among Kentucky fans in recent weeks. Local reports have suggested that the NBA legend might have an interest in joining Mark Pope’s setup for the new season.
Whether this is true or not, only time will tell, but what is curious is that Crawford certainly hasn’t come out and denied any of it, possibly suggesting there could be some merit to these reports.
In fact, some might say Crawford is actually teasing some sort of coaching presence in college basketball, and moving to Kentucky and working with Mark Pope might end up being a strong choice for the three-time Sixth Man of the Year.
On Saturday, Crawford replied on X to a post praising his commentary during the ongoing NBA playoffs. The fan added that if he doesn’t take up the role of assistant coach at Kentucky, he might be well served to continue on the commentary side of things.
Crawford replied with a fist-bump emoji to the post, sparking some level of excitement among fans that clearly included some of the Kentucky faithful.
“Please (Jamal Crawford) BBN welcome u and urs with overly open arms would love to have you in the bluegrass,” one fan said.
“But BBN really hopes you take the job!” another fan claimed.
“I feel like you would help everyone on the team but especially Malachi Moreno, he could learn a lot from you,” another said.
What’s Jamal Crawford’s Current Status?
Jamal Crawford has said that he’s definitely considering an offer to coach at Kentucky, and he has deep ties with Mark Pope from Washington and a lot of respect for what’s being done at the Lexington outfit.
Out of any other offers from college teams, he seems inclined to pick Kentucky if he does enter coaching at the collegiate level, but nothing is set in stone just yet. As of now, he continues his commentary gig during NBA games.
