Nate Ament won’t be available for No. 23 Tennessee’s game against South Carolina this Tuesday night. The announcement was made directly by the school through its X account, where they posted what they called an “Availability Update”.
Here’s what the school’s statement said about the player’s situation:
“Nate Ament will not play tomorrow night at South Carolina. Ament is out due to a right leg injury sustained Saturday against Alabama. The timetable for his return is to be determined and he will continue to be evaluated.”
Nate Ament is nursing a right leg injury he suffered in the first half of Tennessee’s loss to No. 16 Alabama 71-69 on Saturday. It remains to be seen if he will be available for the regular season against in-state rival, No. 24 Vanderbilt, on Saturday.
Ament is one of Tennessee’s statistical leaders, having the second-best points per game average. He’s currently recording 17.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game at the moment. Only Ja’Kobi Gillespie is averaging more points per game at the moment for the Volunteers, with 18.4.
Tennessee’s Assistant Coach Amorrow Morgan on Nate Ament’s Injury Prognosis
In an appearance this week on WNML 99.1 in Knoxville, Tennessee, assistant coach Amorrow Morgan spoke about Nate Ament’s injury. IT seems that the team is cautiously optimistic about his recovery:
“He’s going to do everything in his power to be around if he can be around, be back if he can be back,” Morgan said during his weekly appearance on WNML 99.1 in Knoxville. “There’s not very many kids that want this more. There’s not very many kids that care about winning as much as Nate Ament does. So we are optimistic, but you know what, time will tell.”
While a season finale against an in-state ranked rival, like Vanderbilt, would be exactly the game to bring back a star player to the court, the game is less critical for Tennessee than one would initially think.
If Tennessee beats South Carolina, the need to bring Ament for the regular season finale decreases significantly. The Vols are two games ahead of Vanderbilt, Texas, and Texas A&M. Why risk your star with the SEC and NCAA tournaments right around the corner?
