Many people considered St. John’s’ narrow victory over Kansas during the second round of March Madness as an instant classic, as the game went down to the wire and had to end in a buzzer-beater that proved why March Madness is called what it is. The final score was 67-65, with the game almost going into overtime. However, not everyone was impressed with that game.
ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg was the one not impressed by that game. The former coach was asked what his biggest takeaway from the Kansas vs. St. John’s game was, and he revealed how unimpressed he was with either team.
“I think it set basketball back about 20 years,” he answered. “Baskets were hard to find, I mean, these teams just went after each other and it just happened to be a Big East rock fight and it just happened to be Kansas, which is in the Big 12, I mean.”
The game itself started pretty slowly, as St. John’s jumped to a big lead midway through the second half, 66-42. However, Kansas fought back and hot into striking distance, allowing Dylan Darling to hit a game-winning drive just milliseconds before the buzzer went off. This will be the first time that the Red Storm have reached the Sweet 16 since Rick Pitino took over the team.
As for Kansas, this may be Darryn Peterson’s final game in a Jayhawks uniform. The five-star freshman is seen as a one-and-done for Bill Self’s squad, as he is projected to enter the 2026 NBA Draft as a potential No. 1 pick. Self and the team will have to get back on the drawing board as they prepare for next season without their top scorer.
St. John’s’ Rick Pitino Showed No Emotion As Dylan Darling Hit Game Winner
As for Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm, they have booked a ticket to the Sweet Sixteen round of March Madness. They will face No. 1 Duke and there is a lot of excitement in the air. However, Pitino himself did not look impressed as his team won. The coach just walked stone-faced as his players went wild around the 3:18 mark of the video:
Cameras during the game captured Pitino stone-faced as Dylan Darling hit the game winner. He had absolutely zero reaction as his team celebrated the victory.
