Darian DeVries joined the Indiana Hoosiers in 2025. His first season ended 18-14 overall, including 9-11 in the conference and without making an NCAA Tournament appearance. The Hoosiers haven’t been to the Big Dance since 2023.
After the season, Coach DeVries knew that he’d lose some players. He might not have been prepared for the number of players who’d leave Indiana. A total of 11 players left the Hoosiers through the transfer portal and ran out of eligibility.
That’s a big blow for any program, let alone a struggling team trying to get back on track. However, DeVries has been adamant about rebuilding the Hoosiers from scratch and putting together a great roster for next season.
So far, Josh Harris is the only Indiana player who entered the transfer portal and has signed with another program. He joined the Florida Atlantic. The sophomore forward averaged 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds in his first season.
Lamar Wilkerson, Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright, Sam Alexis, and Reed Bailey have all exhausted their college eligibility, and they won’t return with the Indiana Hoosiers next season.
There are five Indiana players still in the transfer portal, waiting for the right opportunity to join another program. Jason Drake, Jasai Miles, Aleksa Ristic, Nick Dorn, and Andrej Acimovic are still in the portal. Tayton Conerway, who averaged 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 steals for the Hoosiers, is trying to secure an additional year.
As for the incoming players, Indiana has secured a lot of great talent for their roster next season. Georgia Tech’s Jaeden Mustaf, Duke’s Darren Harris, Notre Dame’s Markus Burton, SMU’s Samet Yiğitoğlu, Alabama’s Aiden Sherrell, and Villanova’s Bryce Lindsay have committed to the Hoosiers.
Vaughn Karvala, Trevor Manhertz, and Prince-Alexander Moody are three incoming freshmen for the Indiana Hoosiers. Overall, DeVries’ team looks stacked so far, and there’s a possibility of more players coming in.
Playing for Darian DeVries was a Unique Experience
Head coach Darian DeVries has a vision for the program. Although it’ll take some time for his method to show results, players have believed in his vision from his first year with the Indiana Hoosiers.
As per senior forward Reed Bailey, it was a unique experience.
“I think everybody here was just committed to each other and wanted to create a real culture for Coach DeVries to start and carry on for a long time,” he said. “I’ll always remember the guys. Everybody was in the same boat this year.”
With a stacked team, pressure will be on DeVries to deliver big. The last time Indiana went to the National Championship game was back in 2002, and they haven’t won a championship since 1987.
