The Siena Saints will be the team to take the monumental task of taking on the No. 1 team in the country, the Duke Blue Devils, as they enter the NCAA Tournament in the first round. Duke is coming in as the overwhelming favorites and are more or less predicted to win this matchup by a wide margin. However, they will also be missing some key pieces coming into the game to kick off their March Madness campaign.
As for Siena, the Saints are also a bit banged up, perhaps more than Duke coming into this game. This means that they will probably be heading to a game against the No. 1 team in college basketball shorthanded, which could be costly.
Duke vs Siena NCAA Tournament Injury Report
Duke Blue Devils
- G Caleb Foster: Out, foot
- C Patrick Ngongba II: Out, foot
- C Ifeanyi Ufochukwu: Out, undisclosed
- G Sebastian Wilkins: Out, redshirted
Siena Saints
- F Tajae Jones: Out, back
- F Tasman Goodrick: Out, knee
- G Owen Schlager: Out, upper body
- G Reid Ducharme: Out, shoulder
- G Marcus Jackson: Out, undisclosed
The last time the injury report was updated, Patrick Ngongba II was listed as questionable as Duke was a lot more optimistic about his return a few days ago. Now, however, it seems that he may still be a bit hurt or they are choosing to rest him until they run into a tougher opponent.
As for Caleb Foster and Ifeanyi Ufochukwu, the two have been already out for a long time, so their absences are considered minimal, while Sebastian Wilkins has been redshirted.
Meanwhile, the Siena Saints are out a couple of big men, which means that they are facing one of the scariest frontcourts in the country shorthanded. Both Tajae Jones and Tasman Goodrick have been producing for the team in the frontlines, but with their absence, the Saints may not be able to contain the dominant force that is Cameron Boozer, who could bully his way to another double-double.
To make things even more complicated for Siena, the team also lost guard Marcus Jackson to an undisclosed injury just a few days before the game. Still, the Saints could put up a valiant effort and be scrappy against one of the most well-oiled teams in the country.
