Darius Acuff Jr is one of the most exciting prospects in the NBA draft this year. Coming from John Calipari’s school of guards, Darius quickly proved his worth as one of the most talented players in college basketball. He had a terrific season with Arkansas, especially the playoffs.
Acuff was underrated for the majority of the season. But as soon as he started the NCAA tournament, he was the hot topic. He is projected to be the 5, 6 or 7th pick in the NBA draft this year. In an appearance on Draymond Green’s podcast, he revealed that he is most excited to face Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving.
Draymond asked who he was most excited to play against.
“I would have to say, Kyrie Irving. Just the way he do everything is just, it’s amazing to watch but it’s also amazing like to learn from you know. Like you rewinding stuff back when you watching it you seeing different things that he do. I feel like him and Steph, two great guys that you can watch and really learn from ’cause they do a lot of different things,” Acuff said (23:21).
“Steph moves without the ball better than anybody I’ve ever seen. Kyrie gets his shots off better than anybody. So just watching those two. I’m definitely excited to play against those two for sure. I would say just guarding them and taking that challenge and, you know, hopefully competing against them,” he added.
Arkansas crashed out of the March Madness in Sweet 16 vs Arizona. However, Darius Acuff Jr was one of the best players of the NCAA tournament and the games leading up to it. In 36 games, he averaged 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists. He was one of the highest scorers in the country.
Darius Acuff Jr heaps praise for John Calipari and Tyler Ulis
During his one-and-done season with Arkansas, Darius got the chance to train with Tyler Ulis who was one of the assistant coaches of John Calipari. He was appreciative of how Ulis helped Darius develop.
He praised coach Calipari’s insight and was grateful to be among one of John Calipari’s guards. He shared how he was always learning new things. He said that he was always eager to listen and willing to work under both coach Calipari and Ulis.
