The Duke Blue Devils have recently received a set of very bad news for their NCAA Tournament hopes. Caleb Foster is out for the foreseeable future, likely the rest of the season. The starting guard for the No. 1 team in the nation underwent surgery on Sunday to repair a broken right foot.
According to sources close to ESPN, the school is not being declared out for the season, but Duke admits that for a return to be realistic, the school needs to go on a deep run in March Madness.
Of the injury, Jon Scheyer said the following on Tuesday:
“In his mind and our mind, we’ll do everything we possibly can with our mindset to continue to advance where we can give him a shot to come back when it’s all said and done,” Scheyer said.
Foster is Duke’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 8.5 points and 2.8 assists in 31 games this season. He suffered an injury to his right foot in the first half of Sunday’s regular-season closing victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels. In his place, Cayden Boozer is expected to become the team’s starter.
