It seems that USC Trojans guard Alijah Arenas‘ mother is extremely excited, as her son is set to finally play out his first game in the 2025-26 collegiate hoops season. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Alijah will make his freshman year debut for coach Eric Musselman’s Trojans against coach Chris Collins’ Northwestern Wildcats at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
Alijah’s mother, Laura Govan, took to her Instagram account to celebrate her son’s long-awaited debut in college basketball. Govan used a photo of Alijah with a graphic design to commemorate the young standout’s upcoming milestone. She included a six-word caption to hype her son up.
“Let’s go…SEE YALL Soon ✌🏽 @alijah0arenas,” Govan captioned with a peace sign emoji.
Alijah Arenas, the son of NBA legend Gilbert Arenas, is currently listed as probable for the upcoming Trojans-Wildcats matchup, as he is presumably wrapping up his injury recovery process. In July 2025, the class of 2025 five-star recruit suffered a torn meniscus during a Trojans practice session, and he has used the past six months to recover from it.
Along with this setback, Arenas was also a part of a horrific car crash before July, as he was hospitalized and placed in a coma to recover from the smoke inhalation he suffered. But the younger Arenas has shown great resilience, with reports saying that he joined the practice sessions last month and is now poised to return with 13 regular-season games left in USC’s schedule.
Laura Govan Also Posted About Alijah Arenas’ Debut On Her Instagram Stories
Along with her post on her Instagram feed, Laura Govan also took to her Instagram stories to share the same photo of Alijah Arenas to hype him up for his college basketball debut.
This time, however, Govan went with a three-word caption to express her happiness that it is indeed time for her son’s much-anticipated debut.
Alijah Arenas joins a USC Trojans squad that has an overall record of 14-4 (3-4 Big Ten).
“It is time!!! @alijah0arenas,” Govan wrote.
