No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders are two strong programs featuring in one of the highly anticipated second-round contests across the NCAA Tournament. They will face each other on Sunday for a spot in the Sweet 16.
Ahead of the game tonight, let’s take a look at the injury report of both teams.
Alabama vs. Texas Tech Injury Report
Alabama Crimson Tide injuries
Aden Holloway (G): Out (personal/suspension)
Kris Bristow (F): Out (undisclosed)
Davion Hannah (G): Out (undisclosed)
Charles Onyejiaka (C): Out (undisclosed/long-term)
Among all these players out of the game, Holloway is the biggest loss for the program in Tuscaloosa. He is a scoring threat, but just ahead of the NCAA Tournament, he was arrested on March 16 for first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp.
Holloway is waiting for his court date and his status remains out indefinitely until the situation gets clearer. Till then, Holloway has been suspended from the program. Alabama head coach Nate Oats talked about Holloway’s suspension on the “Hey Coach” podcast, saying:
“Look, we’ve got standards in our program. We’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable, and we try to keep everything in-house. Obviously, some of the situations, you can’t. This is one of those.”
Holloway was an efficient shooter, scoring 16.8 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, including 43.8% from beyond the arc. While they managed to get past Hofstra in the first round, they are weak without Holloway while facing a program like the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Injuries
JT Toppin (F): Out (torn ACL, season-ending)
Leilani (L.) Hoover (F): Out (redshirt, season-long)
Christian Anderson (G): Questionable/limited
Just like Alabama, even Texas Tech is at a disadvantage entering this game. They’ll be without their star player, JT Toppin, who tore his ACL last month and is already ruled out for the season. Toppin was averaging around 22 points and 11 rebounds per game. In his absence, the offense’s focal point was Christian Anderson, who is questionable for this matchup.
Anderson is dealing with a groin strain from the Big 12 Tournament. He was available in the first round win against Akron and even though his status is questionable, he’s likely to take the court for the Red Raiders on Sunday night.
