Keon Coleman’s college stats show how he evolved into one of the best in the country in 2023, making him an idolized draft prospect.

After transferring to the Florida State Seminoles ahead of the 2023 season, Keon Coleman became one of the most productive wide receivers in college football, boosting his chances of being taken highly in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Coleman’s college stats have increased yearly as the wide receiver evolved into one of the top receivers in the nation.

Keon Coleman Has a Slow Start to His Career in Freshman Season

Coleman committed to the Michigan State Spartans out of Opelousas Catholic High School, LA., as a multisport athlete who excelled on the football field and basketball court and as a track and field standout.

As a freshman in 2021, Coleman played in 10 games but was used infrequently. He only played 87 total offensive snaps, catching seven passes for 50 yards. His breakout game came against the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he recorded three receptions for 27 yards and his first career touchdown.

It was a slow-burner of a season. Coleman only caught passes in four games while also playing 33 special teams snaps. The Spartans WR was lingering towards the bottom of the depth chart, with the offense dominated by star receiver Jayden Reed and star running back Kenneth Walker III.

Coleman’s Sophomore Breakout

2022 marked Coleman’s breakout season. After playing basketball in six games for the Spartans during the spring, he focused solely on football from the end of the basketball season.

The campaign started strong, as Coleman caught four passes for 84 yards and one touchdown, beating his total yardage from the previous year in the opening game of his sophomore campaign.

It was a sign of things to come as the wide receiver had three games of over 100 receiving yards on his way to 798 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Coleman’s explosive playmaking ability stood out, and he became a go-to deep threat for Michigan State. He finished 13th in the country with five touchdowns of 20-plus yards and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors.

The second-year wide receiver led the Spartans in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, and he finished with the sixth-most receiving yards in the Big Ten.

Coleman Transfers to Florida State for Junior Year

At the end of the 2022 season, Coleman decided to enter the transfer portal and move to Florida State. He was ranked fourth among transfer portal wide receivers and had several offers from programs that included USC, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss before deciding to transfer to Tallahassee.

It was a move that paid off for Coleman, who made a huge impression in his Seminoles debut, snagging nine catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He started all 12 games of Florida State’s unbeaten regular season, catching 50 passes for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns while also returning punts.

Coleman returned 25 punts for 300 yards, the third most in the nation, as he became only the second player in conference history to receive first-team all-ACC honors as a receiver, punt returner, and all-purpose contributor.
