The Colorado Buffaloes will be without star quarterback Shedeur Sanders next season, as he is entering the 2025 NFL Draft.

Fortunately for Deion Sanders’ squad, they should still have a strong quarterback situation next season. They recruited one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation in Julian Lewis, and brought in veteran Kaidon Salter to compete with him.

Kaidon Salter Impressses With 70-Yard Throws at Colorado’s Facility

Colorado brought in Salter for several reasons, but one is his impressive arm strength. A video was posted to X on Saturday, showing him throw several 70-yard passes to his receivers.

Each of the passes that were included in the video was right in the hands of the receiver, displaying Salter’s impressive accuracy at long range.

“That’s like a 70-yard bomb down there. Yeah that’s like a 70-yard bomb,” Salter said.

Salter transferred to Colorado this offseason after four seasons with Liberty. He had an excellent 2023 season, completing 177 of 290 passes for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns. However, he took a step back in 2024, completing 147 of 261 passing attempts for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Heading into his final season of eligibility, the 21-year-old quarterback needs to have a bounce-back season if he wants to get drafted. He opted for a change of scenery to give himself the best possible chance to succeed.

However, Salter is not entering a situation where he is guaranteed to be the starter. Colorado was successful in bringing in Lewis, one of the top high school recruits, for next season. As a result, there will be a quarterback competition between the two for the starting job next year.

It’s not 100% determined who will be the 2025 starter yet, but it is more than likely that Salter is favored to win the job. He is the veteran, and he would not have come to Colorado for his final college season unless he had assurances from Coach Prime and the coaching staff that he would have a good chance to be the starter.

This makes sense, and it gives Lewis a season to develop and grow before starting for Colorado in 2026.
