Kyle McCord and His Beau Went From Prom Dates to Power Couple

McCord and Sophia Giangiordano started dating back in 2018. The couple formed one of the most realistic and stable relationships in the world of college football.

The two first met when they were teenagers. McCord played as a stellar quarterback for St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, and Giangiordano attended Merion Mercy Academy, a neighboring private girls’ school. They did not go to the same school, but somehow their relationship began early enough.

Their public debut as a couple came during prom season in 2019 when they posted a classic promposal photo. It quickly caught the attention of friends, fans, and eventually, the media. Since then, the couple has been inseparable.

When Giangiordano enrolled at Ohio State University in 2020 to pursue a degree in business administration, McCord followed a year later to play quarterback for the Buckeyes.

Giangiordano completed a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State in 2024 in marketing with a minor in communication technology. The professional and educational endeavors of her life have followed in parallel with McCord’s football career. The two remained close despite McCord transferring to Syracuse University in 2024 to play for more game time and start a new life.

In December 2023, the two had dated for five years. To mark the special occasion, Giangiordano captioned on Instagram a series of photos depicting their love life, from high school proms to a game of football in Columbus and all in between: “5 years with you, never a dull moment.”

    Who Is Sophia Giangiordano?

A product of the suburbs of Philadelphia, Sophia Elizabeth Giangiordano is not just a quarterback’s girlfriend—she’s turning heads in her own right.

After graduating from Merion Mercy Academy in 2020, she made her way to Ohio State to begin building a future in business and marketing. She pursued brand strategy, communications, and marketing technology at Ohio State, cheering on McCord’s football career along the way.

At the college level, Giangiordano was an intern at Republic Bank in Philadelphia, engaging in marketing initiatives, SEO strategy, and graphic design.

She subsequently served as a teaching assistant at Ohio State before becoming a communications coordinator at The Hilb Group. It was an insurance brokerage firm in Richmond. Currently, she serves in the firm’s national practice for employee benefits, conveying brand messages and internal communication.

Giangiordano has built a professional image of being smart, innovative, and ambitious. On her LinkedIn page, she states that she is enthusiastic about combining strategy with design and is interested in social media marketing and digital branding.

And while her resume is impressive, it’s her rock-solid defense of McCord that makes headlines.

In September 2024, after McCord’s 31-28 Syracuse victory against No. 23 Georgia Tech on 312 passing yards and three touchdowns, Giangiordano clapped back at online critics with a cheeky Instagram post. Her use of shush emojis was a lighthearted but pointed reminder to doubters who questioned McCord following his transfer from Ohio State.

Despite the pressures of public life and the unpredictability of college sports, McCord and Giangiordano have remained steadfast. McCord was fighting for playing time behind C.J. Stroud and then Devin Brown at Ohio State. And Giangiordano was finishing up school and pursuing professional prospects.

When McCord chose to depart Ohio State in 2024 after having started most of the 2023 season, Giangiordano was nothing but accommodating of the decision.

The duo has gone on to flourish in long-distance dating with regular visits and social media shoutouts that attest to their dedication. While McCord gets ready for his final year at Syracuse, all eyes aren’t just on his statistics but also on the romance that has quietly developed in the background.
