On Friday, January 30, Xander Schauffele’s 1,391-day-long cut streak came to an end at the Farmers Insurance Open. However, the two-time major champion had a hilarious reaction to missing the cut, as he was happy to get the “weekend off.”

Schauffele carded a 3-under 69 in the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open 2026 to aggregate at 2-under. Following the 36-hole play, he missed the cut by one stroke, which snapped his 72 consecutive cut streak.

During the post-round interview, Xander Schauffele had an interesting take on his streak ending.

“It’s going to be nice to have the weekend off,” he said. “Going to go home and relax and regroup.”

The two-time major champion admitted that he couldn’t get accustomed to the new equipment change.

“Kind of had some last minute tweaks to equipment and it really affected me through my bag, I thought. So unfortunate I didn’t get that dialed in in the offseason, but it is what it is. So here I am. I’ll spend this weekend cleaning it up.”

However, Schauffele denied that making the cut was on his mind during the round.

“There’s no boards on the North Course so I kind of missed my putt and I looked at Austin and I said, Is that it? He said, Yeah, you’re done, and I was like okay. So, you know, in terms of pulling a tooth, that was kind of it.

“I mean, Scheffler’s on a good one and you don’t really think about it, you’re just trying to hit as many good shots as possible and make as many good putts as possible. I had plenty of golf today to make it and bogeying a drivable par 4 and parring two par 5s in the middle of the fairway, you deserve to miss the cut. So here I am,” he added.
