Scottie Scheffler was the biggest choice to win this year’s Texas Children’s Houston Open. The man has good odds, and even last season, he performed admirably on the Memorial Golf Course, finishing tied for second place, only one shot behind eventual victor Min Woo Lee. Despite the hype surrounding his name, Scheffler shocked the fans by officially taking his name back from the event.
The PGA Tour reported that the World No. 1 will not be in the field, and Matt Kuchar will take his place. Interestingly, the PGA Tour never stated why Scheffler chose to change his name, which sparked widespread worry among fans. Later, a report from Golf Channel revealed that the World No. 1 is actually expecting his second kid.
Scottie Scheffler is married to his high school sweetheart, Meredith, and the couple already has a son together. They welcomed their first child, Bennett, in May 2024, only weeks after Scheffler won his second Masters title. Interestingly, the golfer did not withdraw his name from any tournaments in which he was due to participate.
According to Golf Channel, Scheffler’s second child’s birth is most probably going to happen before the Masters, allowing him to compete at Augusta National this season. This means that the World Number One’s next tournament might be the first golf major of the season. It will be interesting to see if he can win the Green Jacket for the third time in his career.
Scottie Scheffler goes through a major adjustment before the 2026 Masters

Scottie Scheffler is going through a rough patch as he is trying to find a rhythm in his game. The last competition he competed in was the 2026 Players Championship, where he did not have the finest performance. He finished with a total score of 5 under par, tied for 22nd position on the leaderboard. Interestingly, in between tournaments, Scheffler made a significant shift and returned to his previous driver.
During a post-round press conference, Scheffler explained the reason for the move, claiming that
“I’ve seen some improvements in the new driver, like my spin is much more consistent. It’s actually a touch faster than my driver. But the way I play, I always hit so many different types of shots, and the one last week felt like it was going a little left on me, and when I want to hit my peeler, a lot of times I would hit it out of the middle of the face, it would start drawing on me. So I think that’s a little bit of today, why the ball started going the right way.”
The Masters will begin on April 9, and Scottie Scheffler will be heading to Augusta shortly, as the Masters dinner is also scheduled for April 7 (speculative date).
