    Who Is Mateo Pulcini? Meet the Latest Masters Qualifier From Argentina

    Mateo Pulcini of Argentina sealed a spot in the Masters, the US Open, and the Open Championship after winning the Latin America Amateur Championship on Sunday, January 18. The 25-year-old golfer made par on the second playoff hole to seal the biggest victory of his career.

    Born in 2001 in Córdoba, Argentina, Mateo Pulcini was educated at the University. He tied for seventh as a freshman as OC won the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational. The following season he made eight top-20 finishes, including six top-tens. This impressive outing helped him win the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year award.

    The next season Pulcini made 12 top-20 finishes in 12 starts, helping the team to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II National Championship. He won the Oak Tree Invitational and the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational and twice earned the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week award.

    In his senior year, he had notable results, including a ninth-place finish at the 2023 Latin America Amateur Championship and a top-five finish at the Bubba Barrett Invitational. He also claimed the DII stroke play team title and finished 2-0 in match play at the LSC Championship.

    As of now, Pulcini is ranked 171st in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Prior to this week, he had won seven titles and posted eleven more top-ten finishes in the last 104 weeks.

    “There were a lot of nerves,” Mateo Pulcini reflects on his Latin America Amateur Championship win

    During the winner’s interview, Mateo Pulcini reflected on his Latin America Amateur Championship triumph.

    “There were a lot of nerves coming in, but I tried to have fun, I tried to laugh,” Pulcini said as per Golf Channel. “Being in that position was something that I was dreaming about at the beginning of the week, so why not take advantage of that and enjoy it?”

    The 25-year-old golfer is the oldest to win the Latin America Amateur Championship and the third Argentine, following Abel Gallegos (2020) and Mateo Fernández de Oliveira (2023) to achieve this feat.
