Nacho Elvira said he was at a loss for words after winning the Dubai Invitational, calling it one of the biggest moments of his career. The Spaniard held on by a single shot to lift his third DP World Tour trophy.
Elvira closed with a 69 to finish at 10 under. While others stumbled late, Elvira stayed calm on the last hole and made a simple par to get the job done.
“It means the world. If you told me on Tuesday that I’d be winning this tournament I’d have never believed you,” Elvira said.
“It’s a dream come true, especially having, you know, the family here. I mean, I always trained with my kids walking up to me with a win, and this is just, I mean, anything happens after this is just nothing compared to this.”
He started the day in front and went three clear with a birdie on seven. That advantage didn’t last. A couple of slip-ups dragged him back into a crowded race with Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Daniel Hillier and Marcus Armitage.
He nearly dropped further behind after finding water at the 10th, but he saved par and stayed in the mix. By the closing stretch, five players were tied at the top. Elvira made his move with a birdie at 17, then avoided trouble at the last.
With the win, Elvira has climbed to fourth in the Race to Dubai, something he feels could set the tone for the rest of his season.
“It’s going to help a lot,” he said. “for the first time maybe in 13 years, to be a little bit of a ahead of a head start and build on that. I think there’s so many positives from this week and I mean, I couldn’t be more happy.”
Ranked 190th coming into the week, Nacho Elvira wasn’t among the favorites. But he still managed to get past a field that included McIlroy and Lowry. The win was his first of 2026 and the third of his DP World Tour career.
