Scottie Scheffler shut down the trolls at the WM Phoenix Open with his impressive shot. The American golfer teed it up this week on the PGA Tour. The tournament started with its first round on Thursday, and after three rounds, Scheffler was tied for 16th place.
He bounced back in the third round after a tough time on the field in the first two rounds. During the third round of the event, an announcer said that the world No. 1 needed something to “happen fast.” And soon, he quickly made a perfect bunker hole out and was just four strokes behind the lead at that time.
PGA Tour has shared a video of the American golfer playing on the tenth hole of the TPC Scottsdale on its X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:
“ANNC: Scottie Scheffler needs something to happen fast”
Scottie Scheffler kick-started his outing with an opening round of 73. He struggled with his game on Thursday but then bounced back with a solid round of 65 and made the cut. He played a round of 67 on Saturday and settled with a score of 8-under. Hideki Matsuyama is in the lead after 54 holes at 13-under.
Scottie Scheffler opens up about his performance at WM Phoenix Open
On Saturday, Scottie Scheffler started his outing on the first tee. He made a birdie on the front nine and then added two back-to-back birdies on the tenth and 11th holes.
He added a bogey on the 12th, followed by a birdie on the 13th, and one more birdie on the 15th for an impressive round of 4 under 67. He settled at 8 under for a tie for 16th place and, in the post-round press conference, talked about his performance. Scheffler said:
“I did some good stuff out there. Like the way I played. Felt like I was close to doing some really nice stuff. The golf course is challenging. Your golf shots to be very crisp and sharp in order to make birdies. It’s challenging with how firm the greens get. I did what I could today.”
Notably, Scottie Scheffler has kick-started his campaign this season on the PGA Tour at the American Express with a solid victory. He played the rounds of 63, 64, 68, and 65. This week WM Phoenix Open is heading for the finale, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 8.
