Tommy Fleetwood’s performance so far at the 2026 Dubai Invitational has been a complete roller coaster. The golfer started the event with a respectable round of 2 under par, but following that, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong for him. After making five bogeys and one double bogey, Fleetwood disastered his second round with a total score of seven over par.
The golfer addressed the round following his Round 3, which was significantly better. Fleetwood recorded 7 birdies and only 2 bogeys on the third day, finishing with a total score of 5 under par, interestingly, 12 shots better than his previous round. Addressing this in an interview, the golfer stated that this is why golf can be humbling, and that even if you are brilliant, things can go wrong.
According to one of the latest X posts by the DP World Tour, Tommy Fleetwood stated,
“Golf’s hard. Every now and then, it’s very humbling. Yesterday was one those days where… I get down on myself more than anyone, but when you look over it, I scored the absolute worse I could and everything I could do wrong – I did wrong. But I wasn’t terrible, if you know what I mean? It was an accumulation of doing everything wrong at the same time.”
In the same interview, the 34-year-old golfer also highlighted that despite shooting seven birdies in the third round, he still believes there was some “scruffy stuff” that he can improve in future rounds.
After Round 3, Fleetwood is currently tied for 20th on the leaderboard, with a total score of even par. The golfer sits eight shots off the lead, and while a win is unlikely, a strong final round might propel him into the top ten.
Tommy Fleetwood is targeting high in the OWGR for the 2026 season

Tommy Fleetwood has been in the best form of his life in recent months, with many huge victories. As a result, the golfer is currently ranked third in the Official World Golf Rankings, trailing only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Interestingly, when asked about the rankings during the Dubai Invitational press conference, Fleetwood stated that he still needs to catch up.
According to the DP World Tour’s official website, the golfer explained,
“There is a clear gap; those two guys are definitely the best golfers in the world. I’m just one of the players in the pack behind that has some catching up to do there.”
Aside from that, Tommy Fleetwood also revealed his aims for 2026, claiming that he would first like to stabilize at third place in the OWGR this season. He explained,
“Starting the year in a different position than I’ve ever been, World Number Three, and I think that’s very cool and very exciting to sort of have to think about trying to maintain the level that I’ve reached there, and I think that’s very, very exciting. And I think that’s the first thing to do.”
Tommy Fleetwood also talked about how, when people compare him to McIlroy and Scheffler, he views it as a huge compliment.
