Cameron Young is The Players championship 2026 winner. The 28-year-old registered his second PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the TPC Sawgrass. The 2025 Wyndham Championship champ confirmed his latest title win with the shot of his career to 10 feet on the wind-blown Island Green for birdie as rival Matt Fitzpatrick missed an 8-foot par putt on the final hole.
Young played bogey-free on the back nine to finish with a 4-under 68 in the final round. The Florida resident clinched a one-shot victory over Fitzpatrick to bank a whopping $4.5 million from the event’s $25 million prize purse. Apart from his career’s biggest paycheck, the 2025 Ryder Cup star earned 750 FedExCup points.
It is pertinent to note that the champion golfer jumped 11 places on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) to move to No.4 in the world with the win. While Young bagged the winner’s check and raced up the rankings, runner-up Fitzpatrick settled for a $2.22 million paycheck. The Englishman extended his bank to $31,232,516 with this, making him the 58th player to surpass the $30 million mark in his career. He earned it after struggling in hostile fan-made surroundings at the iconic TPC Sawgrass.
Xander Schauffele finished 11-under to settle for a solo-third place finish. He banked $1.72 million for the win and jumped up by three OWGR positions with the result. Robert MacIntyre finished 10-under to take up the fourth place. The Scot returned with $1.22 added to his bank. Meanwhile, rookie Sudarshan Yellamaraju made a breakout performance to share fifth place on the leaderboard with Jacob Bridgeman and Ludvig Aberg.
They bagged $925,000 each while the more experienced trio of Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka and Justin Thomas finished one stroke behind them. They earned $731,250 each for their efforts. Notably, Japan’s Takumi Kanaya finished last on the 73-player leaderboard and added $49,750 to their bank.
