Scottie Scheffler has kicked off his 2026 season with a huge win at the American Express. The golfer secured a comfortable win with a total score of 27 under par, four shots clear of the golfers who tied for second place. Scheffler set several records with this victory, as it also marked his 20th PGA Tour victory, which he achieved before the age of 30. Interestingly, the World Number One’s victory also set a new record for Golf Channel.

On January 28, Josh Carpenter revealed this record on his X account with a post detailing how many views Golf Channel received during Scheffler’s win. According to the report, by combining Big Data and Panel viewers for the final round, the channel had around 617,000 viewers, the largest number in any American Express final round since 2015. Interestingly, these views increased by 127% compared to the 2025 American Express, where Sepp Straka won.

    The report read,

“Sunday numbers are in for @theamexgolf: Final round averaged 617,000 viewers (Big Data + Panel) on Golf Channel, the highest for the event since 2015. That’s up 127% from last year’s final round (272K, also Big Data). Scottie, Blades, or winter weather? I think all three.”

Talking more about Scheffler’s performance, the golfer began the tournament with an incredible opening round of 9 under par. Following that, the golfer shot another great round of 8 under par on the second day, followed by rounds of 4 under par and 6 under par on the third and fourth days, respectively. He made 32 birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey over the course of four rounds.

Scottie Scheffler won $1,656,000 and 500 FedEx points for his outstanding performance. The golfer also discussed his performance after the tournament, claiming that his wife was the key reason behind it.

Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith Scudder, are high school sweethearts as they have been together since their senior year. They tied the knot with each other in December 2020 and have even welcomed their first child in May 2024. Following his tremendous victory at the 2026 American Express, the golfer stated that his wife is his best friend and does a lot for him.

According to the Asap Sports, Scheffler stated in an interview,

“Oh, well, I couldn’t do what I do out here week in, week out if it wasn’t for their support. My wife is my biggest supporter, doing tons of stuff behind the scenes in order to get me out here and ready to play. Whether it’s waking up at 5:15 this morning to make me breakfast this week or packing up most of our stuff today so we can get home. Just little things that nobody sees. She’s my best friend.”

The next tournament Scottie Scheffler will be competing in is the WM Phoenix Open, which will be taking place at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona from February 2.
