Phil Mickelson recently shared his thoughts on Brandel Chamblee’s statement on the ongoing Players Championship rumors. The PGA Tour has teased that the Players may soon be designated the fifth golf major to be held in the United States. Chamblee has reacted positively to these speculations, noting that the event is already superior to the other four majors.

Chamblee claimed that the TPC Sawgrass is one of the toughest golf courses, making the tournament one of the most difficult for golfers. He argued that this is why the tournament is bigger than the golf majors. On February 7, Josh Carpenter posted about this comment on his X account, which read,

“. @chambleebrandel is paid to give his opinion and did so here in calling the Players the best major. “The Players, to me, stands alone and above the other four major championships as not just a major, it is, in my estimation, the best major.” Full comments”

Interestingly, Phil Mickelson responded to this statement by claiming that he had previously won the Players Championship and that the TPC Sawgrass is not as huge as the golf majors. His X comment read,

    “I’ve won it. It’s not.”

Under the comments of this post, Ian Poulter agreed with Phil Mickelson, stating in an X post that he has also fared well in the tournament, finishing second once, and that he, too, believes the course is not challenging. His X post stated,

    “I’ve only finished 2nd… It’s not 😂”

Phil Mickelson is currently absent from LIV Golf because he has elected to skip a few of the opening tournaments.

When will Phil Mickelson return to LIV Golf?

On February 1, Phil Mickelson shocked the fans by announcing that he will be withdrawing his name from LIV Golf for the next two tournaments. The golfer revealed that he and his wife, Amy Mickelson, had to be somewhere owing to a family health issue. He also stated that he hopes to return soon and join his teammates for the 2026 season.

Phil Mickelson noted in his X post that he will miss LIV Golf Riyadh and LIV Golf Adelaide, but he will support his team HyFlyers GC from afar. The post reads:

“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV Events as Amy, and I need to be present for a family health matter. I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible. In the meantime, Ollie Schniederjans will step in for me in Riyadh as I root on HyFlyers GC from afar.”

According to this report, Phil Mickelson will return to the LIV Golf Hong Kong, which begins on March 5 at the Hong Kong Golf Club and has a total prize fund of $20 million.
