Tiger Woods is currently involved in the 2026 Genesis Invitational, the second PGA Tour signature event of this season. The tournament is hosted at the Riviera Golf Course, and while Woods is not in the field, he is on course, busy doing all the host duties. On February 17, the legendary golfer spoke at a press conference, and there he talked about a lot of things, including LIV golfer Anthony Kim, who is currently making headlines for his comeback win.

Anthony Kim won his first competitive tournament in 16 years at the LIV Golf Adelaide. Walking into the final round, Kim was on the back foot, but he recovered well and eventually captured the win with a three-shot margin. Interestingly, Tiger Woods mentioned Kim’s previous run on the PGA Tour and how he had a natural talent. Woods described how he observed Kim during the 2008 Ryder Cup and thought he was unbelievable.

Talking about Kim’s comeback circle, Woods stated that it is a story that has captured the hearts of many people. According to an X post by TWLegion, the 82-time PGA Tour winner said,

“This kid hit it so good. He was on an unbelievable run when he won at Charlotte. Unbelievable at 2008 Ryder Cup. So much natural talent. He can hit any shot he wanted. To see him struggle in life and come all the way back and to win and be devoted as he is to his family, it’s a story you just have to wrap your heart around it.”

This is not the first time Tiger Woods has talked about the 2008 Ryder Cup and Anthony Kim, as in an interview in 2008, Woods once discussed the reason why Kim is able to hit straight shots on golf courses.

During his first PGA Tour run, Anthony Kim was one of the few golfers who could consistently hit the ball straight. Tiger Woods discussed this in a 2008 interview, alleging that Kim employs a total grasp, causing him to choke on his own bag. In this approach, he’s holding the club like a baseball bat, which helps him keep the ball straight. Woods also recommended that many amateur golfers try this grip.

According to Golf Digest, the 15-time major winner stated,

“He’s the only player I’ve ever seen that actually plays pretty much the entire bag choked up. It does provide a lot of control; you don’t hit the ball as far offline. You hit the ball very straight that way.”

    Woods later added,

“It’s amazing that a lot of amateurs don’t try to do that. They like to grip the club like in baseball, with the pinky off the club because some pros have taught them that if you grip the very end of the club, you get more whip at the bottom.”

In response to this, Kim noted that he always does what he believes is right, which, while seemingly dumb, works for him.
